Dear Friends,
Here we are already halfway through 2008. Where has the year gone? Gloria and I will soon celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Time truly does fly when you’re having fun. This has been a spring and summer for work and some fun. Stan led two construction teams into Haiti in March and April. The first team, from Alabama, did repair work at the dorm, put a roof over the containers, and helped Don and Karen. The second team, from PA, raised enough money to put a roof over Pastor Marc’s church. They were told it could not be done, but the team and the Haitian nationals worked together and accomplished with God what others said could not be done. Thank you to everyone who donated money to help send a container, gave of your time and supplies, prayed for the teams, and even helped support us financially. Thank you to all the teams who have used their time and skills to help the people in Haiti.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the record flooding we received in Indiana. I have to say we were very lucky and only had damage to our fencing and just a few other little things. My brush pile was moved for me, so I don’t have to worry about burning it now.
Others did not fare so well. Many lost their homes and all of their belongings.
We just received confirmation that our next container will be set and can start being loaded on July 7. This container will be loaded with food, material, hygeine supplies and other needed items. I’ms sure you’ve heard the news stories about the Haitain people dying from eating "dirt cookies." The food costs are outrageous and we heard from Don and Karen Davis that gasoline will be $9 US a gallon.
This has also been a summer to have a little bit of fun. Dena and her family came down and visited with us in June. We took the boys on their first overnight camping trip and to the zoo. Gloria’s kids and grandkids have also visited and camped out.
Stan was able to go on a fishing trip vacation the first week of June to Minnesota. He caught some nice fish and had a relaxing time with friends. While Stan was gone, Gloria was in a golf tournament, and advanced to the next level. Now it’s time to get busy again. With this letter is information for Christmas Bags for Haiti. Please be sure to take a look at it, and let us know how many bags you anticipate filling. We’re not going to hold you to that count. We’d just like some kind of an idea, if at all possible. you can visit the Haiti bags website to get more information, order a CD or DVD if you need one, and download brochures, etc. If you need anything else, or have any questions, please contact us. Please pass this informationalong to family and friends (even strangers). Together, we can make this a record-breaking year for Christmas Bags.
Seedline will have their annual conference from Sept. 14-17. Dr. Tom Wallace will be the featured speaker, along with different missionaries, and the Rochester Family will return for the singing. If you’e in Indiana at that time, you won’t want to miss this "old fashinoned tent meeting."
Gloria will continue leading her Bible study at the nrusing home. She has from 5-10 people who attend each week. Pray for her and the poeple who participate. She also will be starting a 14 week course at the Women’s Minsitry in town to teach her how to help women who come to the center for help with different emotional and domestic problems. Please pray for her as she goes to class and for the women she will be working with.
Please continue to pray for the Haitian people, supplies to send to Haiti, money for supplies and containers, safety for the teams, and for our personal support. Thank you, again, for continuing to support us both prayerfully and financially.
Have a wonderful summer.
Stan and Gloria Curtis
