Dear Faithful Supporters, Summer 2010 Chris and Catrina Herrick

Summer Opportunities:

Summer ministry is fully upon us now with churches all around Lisbon holding evangelistic outreaches for children and teens.  Many of the outreaches are held in parks or other public places.  We follow up each week of outreach with a camp.  In our community our main outreach is teaching basketball for ages 10-18 at the local gym.  We can use this platform to invite the kids and teens to camp, church, or any other event we choose.  It allows us to meet Portuguese families and interact with them on a consistent basis.

We celebrate three years here this July, a testimony of the Lord’s provision.  We are often asked, "When are you coming home?"  Our answer, by faith, is August 2011, as that would complete a regular four-year term.  That would give us another full year in the language and time to further develop the outreach programs we have worked so hard to build.  As we near this final approach, we "count the cost" of what will be needed to remain those twelve months.  Our support level continues to hold steady at 79%, but the reserve fund that has made up the difference each month does not currently have enough to last that long.  We seek God’s will for $10,000 in either one time gifts or monthly support to allow for this.

Our English as a second language course had its last class on June 23.  The students finished the level one book, and it was encouraging to see their progress and hear how they were understanding more and more English words and phrases.  We received cards and emails expressing gratitude for taking an interest and caring for these students.

We were able to spend three weeks in RI, CN, And MA to celebrate Chris’ brother’s graduation from Officer Candidate School.  Jon will be shipping out, to places unknown to us, so it was great to have this time to spend with him.

Our church has been blessed by several visitors attending regularly.  We know from conversations with them that they are really searching for answers at this time.  This month we are focusing on Bible reading and study as the pastor has assigned four books of the Bible for us to read throughout the month.  August will be our month to focus on praying for missions works here in Portugal.

Your Servants,

 The Herricks
