August/September 2008

Dear Ones,

The town of Presidente Figueiredo has a population of about 10,000 and 25,000 in the township, people especially from N and NE Brazil.  There are some 54 offically registered settlements "communidades".  It is situated at KM 107, north from Manaus.  The Fed. Hwy. BR 174, continues north to Boa Vista whhere the Trimble folks pioneered and served about 16 years and where Grace grew up.

The mayor of this town has made education a priority and provides daily transportation for university students studying in Manaus, and for teachers going to the various rural community schools.  Medical assistance is quite active with 4 ambulances going to and from Manaus and rural communities.  There is much tourism due to the natural beauty of the area with many beautiful waterfalls and rapids.

The new residential area is developing rapidly at least 2 levels above us and our church may possibly obtain land in this new development.   There are soooooo many churches and "everyone" is "evangelical" but most do not know the true good-news message of salvation by grace through faith in the lord Jesus.  We initially thought there was only a ConventionBaptist Church and its congregation in town, but we find there is also a Pentecostal/Charismatic "Baptist" church and one independent  Baptist work.  Our burden since 2005 has been to see a conservative fundamental independent Baptist work here as a testimony to our God.

We’ve had some theft and lost 3 laptop computers, pen drives, camera and some chas on March 2, while we were in SS.  It has crippled our communications, studies, preps for activities, financial reporting and transactions.  Later, 3 smaller thefts from the truck and veranda occurred.  "We wrestle not against flesh and blood…"Eph. 6:12.

We thank God daily for your gifts of love and prayers.

In His service,

Dave and Grace Kintner
