Jim and Alethia are actively involved with four other missionary couples ministering to the people of Trujillo, Peru. In addition to Bible study groups and outreach to unbelievers, they are assisting Peruvian pastors from the area.

Dear Friends,

I began writing this in the selva or jungle of Peru, in the town of Tarapoto. Some of our old seminary students have realized that what they were taught in school was now not being taught in the churches, so they asked if there could be some training in their area churches.

Several of us in Trujillo have helped out teaching some of the classes. Daniel went with me in December. We left in a bus at 2 p.m. and arrived at 8 am the next morning. On Sunday afternoon we got into a canoe with most of the students that we later got to know, and floated down the river to Curiacu where the classes were to be held.

While wading in a creek I slipped on a stone, and was left limping for an entire week. We dealt with flesh-eating flies which layed their eggs in our tender gringo skin. In just a few minutes one morning Daniel and I each had about 30 spost, mainly under the forearms. The sores itched and grew and festered and in a week or two you could scratch out the larva.

The training was successful and we were asked to stay a week the next time. Upon returning home we had an eventful incident on our bus ride. The bus slid and came to land a couple of yards from the ravine. All were asked to disembark and help push which only helped push the bus closer to the cliff. We waited for heavy equipment to come and make things right.
